Told twice, the second time slower. Most nights, you won't hear the end.
That was the first minute. The whole of Night 1 plays on the next screen.
“I've listened to the same stories again and again, and I still don't know how they end. I'm always asleep first.”
Sandra
“If your mind is still racing when your head hits the pillow, I highly recommend [these] stories. They're warm, calming, and offer a gentle way to unwind…”
Michelle
Where the stories happen
At the end of a headland, a white lighthouse keeps the watch. Below it lie a beach, a harbour and a square with a fountain, and the houses climb the hill in small squares of yellow light. Every night the village puts itself to bed, one window at a time, and you get to watch.
A small sound in the old mechanism, like a clock clearing its throat. Then the great lens turns, twelve seconds round, as it has every evening for longer than anyone remembers.
Charcoal smoke along the lane, a stool by the warm cart, paper cones to fold. Nobody needs to say much.
After a long dry summer, one drop on a dusty step leaves a dark spot the size of a coin. Then the whole coast smells green.
The sun has gone from everything else, and only the far mountains still hold it, rose-pink above the dark hills.
A small iron stove ticks as it warms. Olive wood is slow to catch, and once it does, it burns long and low.
Sleep well, keeper. Up on the headland, the light goes on turning.
